The San Francisco 49ers returned to training after the Christmas holiday, but starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo failed to show up.
Jimmy Garoppolo suffered an injury to the ulnar cruciate ligament of his right thumb and also a fracture in the same thumb. Jimmy Garoppolo is currently unsure whether he will play against Houston Texans.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that Jimmy Garoppolo was injured when he was sacked in the second quarter of the game. Although he insisted on finishing the game, Jimmy Garoppolo was intercepted two passes afterwards and made a mistake in the first half, failing to connect with unmarked full back Kyle Juszczyk.
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 26 passes in 35 passes, advanced 322 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
“We know that the thumb has an impact.” Kyle Shanahan said, “At the time we could feel that Jimmy Garoppolo was injured in the game, and Jimmy Garoppolo told us immediately after he came to the bench.”
If Jimmy Garoppolo can’t recover in time, Trey Lance is expected to start.
