On March 14, the Boston Celtics held a jersey retirement ceremony for legendary star Kevin Garnett at home. At the ceremony, the team legend, Garnett’s former teammate Paul Pierce first gave a speech. The full text of Pierce’s remarks is as follows:
I really wasn’t prepared at all, I just thought of what to say. What else can I introduce to a player who is so familiar to everyone? What he brings to everyone, people see clearly every night. His passion, his determination, you can say too many words to describe Kevin. I can only say to him on behalf of myself and the fans, thank you.
We all know that before Kevin came, we had one of the worst seasons in franchise history, and you gave the team a shot in the arm. Kevin’s dedication in every game, as well as the energy and experience he brings to the team, is the best help for the team’s revival. Fans, you are lucky to see him on the court.
Kevin always pulls the team together, he’s the most selfless player, he always gives everything, and we’re so grateful. You brought the kind of culture we need most to this city, and you brought back Boston and Celtics pride.
So, as a fan, as a friend, as a brother, I want to thank you, and I also say, on behalf of every player who has the opportunity to play with you, we love you.
