Frank Smith will run the offense with new coach Mike McDaniel (on-the-spot) and wide receiver Wes Welker (passing). He is also the fourth offensive coach hired by Mike McDaniel, joining Wes Welker, tight end coach Jon Embree and offensive line coach Matt Applebaum.

Frank Smith, 40, was the rushing coordinator and offensive line coach for the Los Angeles Chargers last season. In the 2021 season, the Los Angeles Chargers ranked 11th in the league in pass-screening success rate and 20th in the league in rushing-screening success rate, both improved from the 2020 season (19th, 32nd).

The Miami Dolphins offensive line has a poor pass-screen success rate, but it ranked ninth in the league in rush-screen success last season. Frank Smith will take over last season’s offense with 17th in the league in passing yards per game and 30th in the league in rushing yards per game.
