On Thursday, the Chicago Bears will hire Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as their new head coach.
Matt Eberflus, 51, was also one of the new coaching candidates for the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his four years as Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator, Matt Eberflus led the team to three top 10 defenses in scoring. The Chicago Bears defense ranked sixth overall last season, but has struggled to find a solid quarterback on offense.
Matt Eberflus’ No. 1 task in Chicago is to hire an offensive coordinator, which also helps him and general manager Ryan Poles in selecting quarterbacks. The 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields was selected due to his ability to pass and run, but he only completed 7 passing touchdowns last season, was intercepted 10 times, and led the team with a 2-8 record.
Former coach Matt Nagy led the Chicago Bears to the playoffs twice, but failed to win.
